Good question. Various answers.
Outside the story:
- I wanted a way to make the player character recognisable and to stand out from a crowd of other grunts.
- I wanted to mark him as special, somehow different from the others.
- It was a bit of a tribute to Abe from Oddworld. Abe is blue but all the other Mudokens are green, plus there are a few other parallels.
Inside the story:

- No real reason.
- Ok, maybe a little reason, but it's not a spectacular back story event or anything, more like a set-up for a bad joke.
- That's all you're getting for now.
Blast from the past. Everyone here thought the lyrics were "I'm blue, in Aberdeen I will die, in Aberdeen I will die..." That was in the year I left home and went to live in Aberdeen.

It has, but I could have made it clearer. I've updated the OP to include this info:
MrBehemoth Wrote:Features:
18 levels of puzzling and platforming
Approximately 4 hours playtime (this has yet to be verified and will be updated once the beta is finished)
A whole new take on the A:TDD story, with all new writing
Tons of new 2D images and textures
5 new and original music tracks
Tech Specs:
IFC ("Isolated Full Conversion") mod for Amnesia version 1.3
Only available for Windows due to technical limitations
400Mb download (hey, there's a lot of content!)
Includes installer and launcher
You won't be able to use the code to make your own side-scrolling mods, but you will be able to try your hand at making custom levels (i.e., custom stories) for A:TSD
Apologies to non-Windows users, but it took a bit of jiggery-pokery of the engine itself to get this working. Doing the same thing on Mac and Linux is currently beyond me.
Firstly, a couple of weeks ago over in YouTubeLand, some dude or dudette recut some bits and pieces from my channel to make a A:TSD fan trailer. Show 'em some love.
Secondly, whilst working at my totally non-gaming-related dayjob today I got talking to a client about mods, and it turned out he had heard of A:TSD. I mean, lot's of people have heard of it, but this was I... R... L... and it made my day.
Lastly, the real news: I may or may not be able to release on 1st June, but A:TSD will definitely be entering beta before the end of the month. Fo realz.
I have PM'd a few people who have previously volunteered. I'll post here if I need more.
Awesome news! I won't be beta testing, but I look forward to the finished product! I'm also pretty astonished about how much attention you have gotten going for your modification; to actually find someone who knows about your mod is an astounding achievement.
