Also have it in Penumbra ect.
Wow, interesting to see how many people with the same card are having the exact same issue. I tracked down 10.6 Catalyst drivers but still had the same issue.
Yes, I tried disabling the Catalyst A.I. with no luck. I even enabled Triple buffering for OpenGL but that just makes it so the game won't even start.
Here are my final tips:
Tip #1:
Smash the game CD or in case you downloaded the game, your HDD and your video card with sledgehammer and see if that worked...
Tip #2:
Wait for Thomas and Jens to figure out a solution to your problem.
(I suggest you to try the Tip #2!

)
I'd try Tip #1 because it takes much less time.

At least it worked on penumbra for me.

Tried #1, it's clearly not a solution for the non techy, took me like four minutes to reassemble.
It didn't work by the way...maybe I need to smash the actual game? Can I get my steam code early?

What do you need the code for? Want to smash it, too?
Ok ok, that's my last senseless post in this thread.

Probably printing it and burning it, I can't seems to find a better way!
Haha! I got good laughs, thanks!
But on the serious side:

You get the code tomorrow evening, I believe.
I am almost suspecting this might be a HW problem. As it works in the test but not in game, seems to indicate that it has some problem with several occlusion queries happening at the same time.
But perhaps there is some simple fix....
Have any of you tried a game like Doom 3 and see if that works? Doom 3 has lots of halos and use OpenGL. That would be really nice way to narrow it down.
I don't have Doom 3 unfortunately. Perhaps somebody else could test this out. I'm curious if anybody with a 5830 has actually gotten the game to work without any issues. Also, I've heard that the 5830 is basically a stripped down 5870. Has anybody with a 5870 card had any issues?

I'll try to find a demo of it if I can.
