It is the faintest possibility that his forgetting was the joke.
The quick time events actually work really well.
It is also supposed to be like an interactive movie thus the writing.
If it was a movie the writing would be entirely normal wouldn't it? (Dad, loses his first son, he gets divorced and his second son can't stand him and prefers his mother. Then he gets kidnapped by a killer, and the father has to try and save him, by solving tasks the killer has made for him, he then meets a woman who wants to help.)
Also 25% quick time events, 10% "tank" controls 65% choices.
Through the whole game you have choices so that you will be able to change the storyline.
Also I guess that this is just yet another proof, that different people have different tastes.
You don't like Heavy Rain, I do.
You like Nation Red, DIGI Byte doesn't.
But at least we all like Amnesia.

Two of my friends, I managed to convince them to play. Frictional now has two more people cursing them due to fear. Thinking that, it's actually a good thing
