RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - MegaScience - 10-11-2013 Yeah, what if it has multiple things to do with it? ![]() But really... As long as we don't get carried away, grab at straws. We're here anyway... Right? RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - Damascus Rose - 10-11-2013 But he mentioned revealing the game. And also he sarcastically said it has nothing to do with it so... if it really is nothing to do with the reveal, we've been duped!!! RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - silfrus - 10-11-2013 ![]() I wonder if SOMA is somehow inspired or have relationship with the book MARS XXIII from Jordi Sierra Fabra (Spanish author) where some Two teenagers (Arkady and Iliana living in a colony on Mars earthling XXIII century. They believe they can love, feel, have emotions when they finally realize that they are actually machines with artificial intelligence. Have you read that book? Excuse for my english, I don't speak very much. RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - Alardem - 10-11-2013 I'm thinking of how those cyberpunk novels like Neuromancer depict cyberspace as some surreal world that people can jack into - not at all like the internet as we know it. It's possible that in SOMA, the protagonist is trapped inside the world created by the machine. Also interested by the theory that the two employees we've seen may be replicants of some sort. RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - Cuyir - 10-11-2013 I don't think Soma will be Gibson-esque. Probably the A.I will be Gisbson-esque (uninterested in the affairs of humans for the most part and with a sort of...religious connotation) but as for style (cyberpunk) and jacking into the internet won't happen. I don't think that's what they're going for. They're seemingly exploring A.I themes and what it is to be human, alive, sentient, etc. @Silfrus: that sounds really good. Does it flow well in spanish? I have an issue with reading stuff in spanish (especially authors from Spain) because of flow issues. RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - VaeVictis - 10-11-2013 I'm going to make a quick comment that may be a little out of place, but I want to say it: So far, I'm happy to see that Frictional hasn't hyper sexualized Reed. I hope they'll continue on this course and make her interesting and multidimensional. RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - Ghieri - 10-11-2013 Anyone else feel kind of worried they might do the same parallels between the enemy and the main character that MFP did? Because my current speculation is that the machine copied every member of the crew, then finally Reed. Then it realized that it was a machine, before turning on everyone. I'm also assuming that Reed is the main character. I hope I'm wrong. RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - Mothhive - 10-11-2013 New tweets from Frictional: [START Intercepted Transmission] [thet-upsi, 67%, 001.9131/3/17/4.5] A: The walls started bleeding structure gel yesterday. B: It's like an oily substance, right? A: Yeah, exactly. B: Don't worry about it. Stick with the plan, ok? [...] B: You know that structure gel leakage? That’s going to be a problem. In fact, it is a problem. [END Intercepted Transmission] RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - Mettanine - 10-11-2013 (10-10-2013, 02:54 PM)Kyle Katarn Wrote: We have now three images in which you can see faces and machinery, with three mysterious acronyms: The Mockingbird text clearly states that UH3 is some kind of robot, so 1016 may just be robot nr. 1016 of the UH3-series. The text also mentions, that the UH3-series uses "active fluid memory". Wonder if that's related at all to the leaking "structure gel"... RE: SOMA Discussion Thread - ddonohu2 - 10-11-2013 UH3 1016 is on the robot's plating in the video. After the Omicron company and now the reference to Theta and Upsilon I'm still leaning towards SOMA being a reference to the greek term. |
