RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - GrAVit - 03-05-2014 Indeed it would seem that there's some theme about Greek alphabet. RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Ethelros - 03-05-2014 They put out a blog post as the same time: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/03/05/soma-update-new-trailer-crafting-survival-horror-on-ps4/ Lots of details, some of it they've mentioned before, the design goals mainly. Also an 8 hour gameplay estimate, although I'd expect that they're undershooting it a bit. Fear can extend the time played by a lot. RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Kein - 03-05-2014 Atmosphere: the Game RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Sampyli - 03-05-2014 "Oh, and sometime soon, we’re going to reveal a big secret about SOMA. Keep your eyes open for it!" E: GDC? RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - LordOfDragons - 03-05-2014 My phone doesnt want me to see the video... But i need to watch it '-' RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - TwiK999 - 03-05-2014 New teaser looks cool. Nice looking environments and great sound effects. RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - plutomaniac - 03-05-2014 I'm back with my opinion that the game has some Greek influences. I'm certain now. --> At the video you can see the name of the station is Pathos-2 Θ. The letter Θ is not a coincidence. In Greek PATHOS means passion and it's spelled ΠΑΘΟΣ. --> As I have said previously, in Greek SOMA means body and it's spelled ΣΩΜΑ. From scraps and pieces you can hear from the videos etc it seems there might have been human experiments. Most medical terminology is Greek words so the name of the station (if indeed it was making medical experiments) makes sense to be a Greek word. Also, the teaser shows brains and probably experiments with brains. The brain is part of our body, thus SOMA (ΣΩΜΑ). Now, I know I did not speak of an AI presence. My quick guess would be brain/body experiments to make the perfect AI or similar. RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Alardem - 03-05-2014 Yeah, the environments feel reminiscent of System Shock 2 mixed with Doom 3. Story-wise: Spoiler below!

RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Sampyli - 03-05-2014 I got an idea that they're doing some sort of experiments where they try to duplicate people's minds into machines. The original mind gets damaged in the process somehow and the people end up killing themselves. The machines go rogue trying to make even better machines or better themselves, causing the events of the gameplay teaser. (The guy on the table with his brain out etc.) Maybe there's also a mainframe that a rogue AI got into, and it's trying to make itself a body or something along those lines. (SOMA = body, get it? +1 to pluto) |
