Thanks Thalieur. Now I see where the Save Spots came from.
A couple of times during the first part of the game I 'touched' the artifacts (look like a lantern with lights holes...) - but after a while as the game went on, I stopped touching them because I was a bit freaked out by the atmosphere of the game! since I thought I'd wind up being captured by these things!!!
However I did find at least one other type of artifact (looked like a brown piece of bent machinery of some kind?) that I was able to save in in my inventory -- was is the purpose of this ???
