Before it went downhill there was epic EA games like 007 NightFire, Mirror's Edge, EA Sports, etc.

I think after the year 2010 things started to get going downhill with EA.
EA's never been a nice company (they're not the only ones), for example, back when Bethesda started up in the 80s they developed a football game with a code that made it extremly realistic compared to the sports games at the time. EA was so impressed that they bought Bethesda to get the rights for the code. Bethesda, who's economy was quite weak at the time, gladly accepted since they'd recive support from EA. As it turned out, EA took the code and used it to create the series we know as Madden and then abandoned Bethesda, almost killing them completly.
EA has actually admitted that up until recently, it was part of their buisneiss model to destroy competing companies and studios.

I'm not saying that they are fully an "evil" company, there are no such things and EA has done good things. But they have done quite a lot of damage. (RIP Pandemic Studios and others)

And now, EA has decided to never green light Single Player games, what a loss.

Wait... Pandemic studios? the same studio that made my favorite and only good Star wars game series (Star wars battlefront 1/2)?!

THOSE FUCKING BASTARDS! I was looking forward to SWBIII!!! You are telling me that EA was involved in bankrupting them?!

thats it. thats IT! I'll never buy another EA game ever again. Electronic Ass is dead to me... Dead.

EA has a particularly large boneyard of companies that they're killing off. Maxis, Crytek, Pandemic, just to name a few.

You know, I'm a big fan of Dead Space... 2 was also really good to me, and even though the multiplayer is INCREDIBLY unbalanced, I still enjoyed it at times. But... Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to give up on Dead Space 3. I've been seeing a lot of the things they have been doing to series and they don't stop. They're a plague upon the game industry and yet are still around. Being a game designer and gamer is more of a relationship than many forms of entertainment and production out there and it seems to me these greedy white men are sticking their business where it doesn't belong. Consider me and boycotter of EA titles...

Farewell Dead Space...

You can't say that, it's personally offensive to me.

Actually, as I recall Valve had also made a similar statement following the release of Portal 2 saying that it might probably be their last "Fully isolated single player experience" (Save for Episode 3 hopefully). Not many people had freaked out over that. I guess it's because Valve knows much better than EA how to make fun games.

@Statyk: Well, I'm a massive, massive fan of the Dead Space series as well, and here's an optimistic way to look at it I think: In terms of Dead Space 2, the multiplayer segments were one of the only short-comings of the game, the single player was epic. I'm willing to give Dead Space 3 the benefit of doubt that the isolated single player portion of the game (Without co-op, or multiplayer) will be just as good as Dead Space 2's.

EDIT: Also on the topic of multiplayer games, only add it if you have a proper way to implement it in a good way, and not just as a gimmick (Dead Space 2 *cough*). Plus it's also important that it doesn't drag down the primary portion of the game, for example single player.

As an example I really respected Rocksteady's announcement when they said that Arkham City would not have a desired multiplayer because they thought it would drag down the single player, and that's the main thing they wanted to deliver.

Dead Space?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO why would they make it some god damned multiplayer game?! wtf... that's like when the idiots tried to make Mirror's Edge a multiplayer type game.
