I know it's weird but I kinda get this icy feeling when I see needles piercing skin in movies or irl, but taking them is chill. RE: Human Brain's reaction to Scary Stuff - Robby - 10-25-2012 My phobias. Fear is one of the things we live with. It can definitely help in certain situations, but also has the tendency to be unhelpful. I managed to outsmart one of the fears, only to discover several more buried in the back of my head. I believe the most common on the planet is height, or water, can't remember which. Afraid of 'em too. RE: Human Brain's reaction to Scary Stuff - Melvin - 10-25-2012 I'll go for height. That feeling you get in your feet... ugh RE: Human Brain's reaction to Scary Stuff - Ghieri - 10-25-2012 Yeah, I'll take height as well. It even bothers me when I'm playing games, like Half-life 2 or Mirror's Edge. I never really experienced fear of heights in games, only if I was at around the 3rd floor. There, or above that, and I my heart would start racing. RE: Human Brain's reaction to Scary Stuff - Froge - 10-25-2012 I'd go with height, blood, worms, and many-legged creatures as my main phobias. Not sure how that's relevant to the thread, but everyone is discussing them. On-topic: Personally, I think doubt is the largest root of fear. Not all animals can comprehend uncertainty, or at least be in an "uncertain" state; somewhere along our evolutionary line we learned that there are things we're unsure of, such as who's hiding behind our backs, and that made us more cautious and thus more able to survive.
