Yeah I know, I have all textures, diffuse, baked normals and height, specular, etc... I'm just getting used to HPL2 work system and possibilities. And everything goes just fine, real fine. And in comparison with many other SDK's (I've used them a lot from Source to CryEngine) I'd say HPL editors are very comfortable and user-friendly. That's nice, very nice... the only complaint is that to many options have to be made by scripting, I mean exactly by writing codes. That's OK, but that's a little bit more time-wasting... but OK ))))))

Just download Maya 2011 (which is more stable than 2012) and follow this tutorial http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-18352.html Smile

(I hate sponsoring my own tutorials but I worked extremely hard to make it possible for everyone)

Maya 2012 forever...

...I'm joking. If I wouldn't find a tricky way to work with Maya 2012 & HPL2 I will surely downgrade to Maya 2011. No big deal, I don't even know what's the difference between them. Surely just some not really necessary changes in details of core and scripts. But first I'll check all the possibilities, maybe I'd be lucky (or clever) enough to find a rabbit hole.

Well, Maya 2012 won't work with Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Just forewarning you. Sorry, Alex.

Only difference I noticed so far, is that Autodesk managed to break the character sets in Maya 2012. They worked perfectly fine in 2011, but in 2012 it's impossible to animate a rig that's using them with the Graph Editor.
They never fixed it either - I don't know if they work again in 2013. Probably not, because Autodesk is apparently ruled by a pack of chimpanzees! Big Grin

Oook... it doesn't work with Maya 2012... no way... Only if Frictional could update Editors after a Machine for Pigs then maybe... but now, just like all of you warned me, it doesn't work...

Oook... what's next... I don't have money right now to buy 2011, but I do own 2010. Is Maya 2010 good for HPL2?

Seems like the thread can be deleted or closed. At least I don't have any questions or problems. All questions are answered, all decisions are discussed, no need to leave this thread open... well, I think so...

2010 should be fine. But you can get free student versions of all Autodesk programs, too, that may be used for noncommercial work. Just register on their page.

Aha, very clever 32 years old student Smile

It's OK. I got my Maya 2012 and maybe it would be useful after a Machine of Pigs release. And I got my good old Maya 2010. It doesn't really matters where to model, if seriously...

I just didn't want to delete Maya 2012, clean up all and everything. And than install Maya 2010 with all necessary plugins. Real waste of time. I have a problem with a free Hard Disc space, so I couldn't have both Maya 2012 and 2010 installed simultaneously. But... I have to live through this... oh... poor me Sad

Any Maya version is usable with HPL2, just as long as it isn't 2012 or 2013 Big Grin Student versions are completely usable. Is it possible for you to get a spare internal hard-drive for 2010? If you can, everything will work a-ok for you! Smile

Sorry that the DAE/ Collada exporter in 2012 doesn't work. I haven't found a way around it, as of yet, to get it to work. It seems that the Autodesk plugin for that is a bit... Wonky.

If you ever get 2010 installed or any student version, please let me know. I can help out with anything else. If I had more spare time, I'd be able to export your models from my Maya in dae format (I might have some spare time soon). Custom animations on the otherhand would be a little bit of a problem, if you had any. Sorry Lass.
