Danny boy, not quite the comparison.
More like someone who entered an uknown restaurant and was served twice a great meal but both different and surprisingly very tasty.
The other time he comes back and gets the same meal as last time. As tasty as before so he enjoys it yet the "surprise" dissapeared.
And we all know that eating the same meal everyday finally gets boring. The best example is Call of Duty franchise. At least for me.
That's my opinion. Hopefully their secret project will surprise me again.

Literally the only similarity between the two games I've seen is that they recycle assets and they put "Amnesia" in the title. But that's it.

Exactly. AMfP have a new story, new setting, new characters, new enemies, new sounds and music...you get the idea. The only thing the two games seems to have in common as of yet is that they take place in the same universe and therefore there might be the occasional reference to the previous title.
So I think it's quite safe to say that you won't be served the same meal. And since you used food to describe this: different meals can still use the same ingredients without tasting the same, keep that in mind.

That's not really the point. As Trag said earlier, AAMFP is not a game from Frictional. It is a game from TheChineseRoom and it is based on Amnesia. Think of this as an expansion whereas Justine was a free small add-on.
The next FG game is based on HPL3 and has nothing to do with AAMFP. So, someone should not feel disappointed, not at all. Also remember that the more time FG has for their own upcoming game the better it will be.

If you want a modern themed game, go play a CS like White Night.
You can also take a crack at making your own CS also.
