How do you know his rules didn't work?

Because he set up the rules early on, and then later on all of them got broken one by one? The operator symbol didn't do anything, getting high (as in vertically) didn't work, getting to water didn't work, etc. It's like the whole shtick was subverting himself.

I bet slender man killed him immediately after the first or third post, then posted as the boy to make us think the techniques wouldn't work.
