I have been thinking a lot about the ending lately.. I keep thinking about the loud bang-sounds in the temple. Aren't they the same sounds as in the intro? I mean, the dark place in which the intro took place could be what the temple really is.. I guess there are things we'll never get to know.

The opening 'dream' seems to be when Mandus sabotaged the Machine prior to losing his memory.

Sabotaged? I always thought it was starting there.
Mandus felt regretful on the 28th of December and sabotaged the Machine, falling into a coma and waking up three days later on New Year's Eve. The 'dream' in the beginning shows that the Machine was begging Mandus not to kill him.
