Photos as a basis and then I paint over them, add details that weren't in the photo, some subtle dark and light areas to support the shape of the object, that sort of stuff. Depending on the artstyle of course, I handpaint alot of models in the spirits of warcraft, however when it comes to making''realistic'' objects, it's photos all the way. There are even sites such as CGtextures.com dedicated to providing these photos. |
