Just to throw this out there to the OP but if you are looking for quality you are going to have to spend money. If you want to do this all for free that is fine just expect to get what you paid for. As for piracy I think any decent person is pretty much against it. Fraps doesn't even cost much.
As for Sony Vegas, it is okay it is better than camstudio for sure. It is not that user friendly (in my opinion) and doesn't offer the same level of quality Power Director 9 does though, much less Adobe's software. I won't comment on encoding speed or anything since that all comes down to pc components and what your quality settings are more than anything.

dude my parents dont want to hear a word about Credit Card or birth day gift like this... they think its dangerous to buy things online becuse after they put in the credit card number they think people will start stealing money from the credit card...
omg why parents have to be so freaking stupid...

FRAPS is one of the best purchases I have ever made! It's so worth the few bucks.
But anyways, I suggest you to try Xfire. It's 100% free and you can record gameplay with sound.
