I do have the newest drivers already installed.
I wonder if the new drivers improve performance for new cards at the expense of compatibility with older cards. I've seen problems on other PCs before where new drivers on an old card lead to worse performance.
Looks as though I may have to get a new graphics card for this system anyway if it's borderline.

If I do downgrade my driver for the existing card, I'll post back as to what happens to the game.

I was using Nvidia's own v275.33 driver.
I've now just gone to the Asus site and downloaded their v259.44 version which is the newest one listed for this card. It dates from March this year.
The problem is now fixed!
Interestingly, my graphics scores in the Windows Experience Index have gone from 5.7 and 4.3 to 5.9 and 5.3!!
