RE: Amnesia: AMFP is underwhelming (minor spoilers) - Jonez - 09-15-2013

People need to learn the difference between "Horror" and "Scary". This is an adventure horror game, no question about it.

If TDD was terror, AMFP was horror. They're two very different concepts, get to distinguish them a bit before calling one game bad.

People played the game expecting the plot and implication served to them in the boring narrative. How is this hard to understand?

The two trailers offered glimpses of a game that included elements of Amnesia style horror. That was not delivered on, and even the people who support the game admit it does not include Amnesia brand horror at all. The brand that was marketed.

False advertising in game trailers and screenshots is something this industry has been struggling with for a long time. This is about what consumers were led to believe in order to make sales and pre-orders.

'Boring narrative'. Yeh, okey.

Got an argument to offer besides brain dead dissatisfaction with my post?

Got anything more than internet rage and hilarious insults? Smile

Two levels in and bored.. - Trueblue1878 - 09-15-2013

I am wondering if this is all you get? Where are the puzzles, the inventory system and the oil for lanterns, laudanum etc? Those little things made TDD interesting but this one just seems to be all about the story so far.
Nothing to pick up.. what is the point of opening drawers etc? All I can find so far is journal pages. Bleh..

Please tell me it gets fun?

Keep playing and remember, it's about immersing yourself in the game. Don't think about what's bugging you and just keep playing it.

I will play it but been waiting for this game since I finished TDD back in 2010 so I had high expectations hehe.. Hope it picks up, or I'll have to replay penumbra and TDD to get my fix!

I found by the end of the game, AAMFP gets consistently better every level you play. From start to finish, it only gets better and better

Dissapointment Galore! - imgoneimdead - 09-15-2013

Frictional, don't give your IP's to people who make books in your engine.
I'm not scared playing this, and I'm not compelled to move forward because the story is too obvious and uninteresting. I'm not worried about some dinky little monster coming and hitting me once of twice because I can just run away from it and end up regenerating my health. I remember noticing subtle changes through the sanity meter and being creeped out. No sanity meter. I remember being scared out of my mind because I had no idea when a monster would show up, maybe I'd have to run and hide somewhere, instead of just running away from a squeeling pig monster. If you were making a comedic game that would be a pretty good monster. Another thing I remember is the fear that made me dread turning the next corner. I still dread doing that mainly because I'll have to do a dinky puzzle soon that won't confuse me in the slightest. Oh yeah, before I forget... What happened to that interactivity? I see a few buttons and stuff I can press, and there's a couple of boxes over there I can move, why not give me something other then a few boxes? Can I please feel immersed instead of feeling like this dresser is made of plastic?

Okay I'm done.
Don't like what I'm saying?
Too bad, it's what I think and you can't change my mind.
Make Amnesia, not Dear Esther with angry pigs.

There's nothing wrong with having a negative opinion about the game or being disappointed by it, however you could have posted your review in the AMFP Member Review Thread.
