Half-Life 1&2 was good, but there are many games today that are better than them. After playing Bioshock Infinite, I'm going so far as to say that it surpasses HL2 quite lenghtly.

Well they both reinvented FPS gaming. I recommend you go play all of them right now. You should at least play Portal and HL2.

Portal is an awesome game concept.
The player is a test subject inside this enormous place.
You have a gun, that shoot holes. Not bullet holes, but portals that you can go through. You can shoot a blue and an orange one. Go through the blue, and you come out of the orange. It's working really well... It doesn't feel like some weird teleport-command. It feels like walking through a portal.
Half-life is a story-based FPS game. Not the usual FPS, BAM BAM BAM, you're dead. There's story and monsters and such. I haven't played it, so i cannot tell you precisely.
But seriously play them! They're awesome! Credits to Valve for these! Now Valve go to school, and count to 3!!!

Portal is a puzzle based FPS that allows you to create holes that you can walk through to solve puzzles. It also has an apocalyptic story.
Half-life 2 is a dystopic future where the government rules everyone's lives and Aliens(or mutants) exist and there are head crabs. I like it because it forces you to interact with your environment to achieve goals, much more than many FPS's, I think.

Just throwing this out there. I feel it's a shame that Portal took all credit for the "portal technology" when Prey did it at least a couple of years before it. Not starting a flame war, just throwing it out there to give 3DRealms a bit of well deserved credit.

To be fair, Prey took it from Narbacular Drop - the creators of which Valve hired to create Portal.
