RE: A minor text update by me. #2 - felixmole - 09-23-2013 I respectfully disagree with Googolplex about the hints. It's strange that Mandus should be advised to press Left-Shift to run. However I do agree with the memento, but since the game's over, I don't think FG will be coming back there to change that. RE: A minor text update by me. - Paddy™ - 09-23-2013 Merged, from Post #28 onwards. Thread closure may be imminent! XD RE: A minor text update by me. - felixmole - 09-23-2013 Would it also be possible to remove the gratuitous insults towards Googolplex as well as the off-topic (including this post), I'm interested in this thread. EDIT: Thanks! I just wanted to know what people from Frictional Games would think about the topic. Why they did it right in Penumbra and changed it in Amnesia? I gladly read Thomas' blogs about core elements of game design, and this is a core element in my opinion. A little thing with huge impact. The wise of texts can influence the feeling very much. The english example in my 2nd picture may be not the best formulation - because english isn't my first language. But I hope you can see what I mean. My german version reads much better. And I would be very lucky when they would be implemented into an official update. Are here any other germans to test my mew "hints"? I need feedback! Amnesia TDD had the same problem with the mementos - I also changed that. Fortunately AAMFP's diaries are written correct, where the protagonist always writes "I". Mind to elaborate on your gamedesign knowledge opposed to that of everyone else on this forum? Quote:The point is that a hint like "You must press B to get the rope down." or a memento like "Rope is broken. You have to find an other way." convey the feeling to play a "game", where it helps you what to do. And that's a no-go of gamedesign. Part of the people replying to this thread agreed, part didn't. To me, the obvious answer would be: It doesn't matter, when developing a game, you have bigger fish to fry. I just think the technical hints (controls, advice), that are not part of the story, and that your character couldn't care less about ![]() (09-23-2013, 06:20 PM)bobbo Wrote:I think he was answering the trolls.(09-23-2013, 05:25 PM)Googolplex Wrote: You doesn't even have knowledge in gamedesign, so let other people do it and be quiet! RE: A minor text update by me. - Doomed316 - 09-23-2013 Dead pool? RE: A minor text update by me. - Your Computer - 09-24-2013 I'm actually in favor of this, so long as the text doesn't make me feel like i'm an idiot when reading it. The main issue with the hints is that the action may already have been committed before the hint ever comes up. That, to me, makes the hints almost pointless to display. I interact with an object, hint comes up telling me how to interact with the object. A hint, at that point, would only be necessary if the act itself does not entail how to further interact with the object. I'll be monitoring this thread, too. |
