RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - Kreekakon - 12-18-2012 *Post to show obscured post* RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - crisosphinx - 12-18-2012 (12-18-2012, 06:21 PM)Saty Wrote: Am i the only one who thinks this game won't live up to the original i.e. Amnesia Dark Descent? Are you slow? Independent games don't do that. Take for example, Penumbra was before Amnesia. Same basic idea, the interaction and the AI has been dumbed down in Amnesia, but the scares are better. The games you mentioned are "mainstream". They are made by big companies to better suit the entire population. Well, Wolfenstein was independent, the first one at least. Eventually, DOOM was created out of Wolfenstein (much scarier), but the mechanics were dumbed down. Doom 3 was the epitome of scare fest, but it was repetitive so it was lame (I really like that game, by the way, fan of the series right here). Dead Space and Doom/ Wolfenstein, FEAR are the climax of repetitive shooters. They are exactly the same but with new graphics and overused functions. Nothing is unique in those. Suffering was at least a little different, but again, mainstream - when I say mainstream, I mean the company like ID software is mainstream, not the game itself. The "screaming pigs in chinatown" which was shown is basically just a monster encounter like the one we're all so familiar with in the original Amnesia. RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - felixmole - 12-18-2012 (12-18-2012, 06:21 PM)Saty Wrote: I could be wrong but screaming pigs in chinatown just don't cut it for me.That is what I first thought when I watched one of TDD's trailers, before I had ever played it. RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - Saty - 12-18-2012 I am slow for having a different opinion? Interesting.Games i mentioned are mainstream but Suffering isn't.It is as far from being a mainstream game as Leonardo Da Vinci was from building an aeroplane! Penumbra series are very underrated, but Amnesia is a bit more mainstream isn’t it? Now looking at my post there were some grammar mistakes but is this a typing forum? No. So using them is a straw man argument. Suffering is arguably the scariest game i’ve played where you have weapons.BP and ADD were even scarier cause you don’t have nothing and that is the beaty of it.They are what you called a true survival horror game. Mainstream or „Underground“ it doesn’t matter.Once a person gets bored of regular survival horror games where you have a knife, pistol, shotgun, sniper, grenade launcher and everything but the kitchen sink he will look for games like this. There are some games that are being listed in the same bucket with Penumbra and Amnesia like Darkness Within yet nothing could be further from the truth. It should be out in early 2013, i'd say maybe february or march so we shall see RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - Gilligan's Hell - 12-18-2012 I Played the dark descent before i watched the trailer RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - Googolplex - 12-18-2012 (12-18-2012, 08:21 PM)Paint the man cut the lines Wrote: I Played the dark descent before i watched the trailerI watched the trailer first and was disappointed after I noticed the demo level wasn't avaiable in entrance hall. They replaced it with refinery, but the demo level was looking better and much scarier. RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - CorinthianMerchant - 12-18-2012 Can we PLEASE stop trashing PDP!!? Yes, he's not as good as he used to be, but the amount of people whining and butthurting is even more annoying. (12-18-2012, 06:33 AM)Paint the man cut the lines Wrote:You're pathetic. I bet not many devs do that RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - crisosphinx - 12-19-2012 (12-18-2012, 11:11 PM)Negotiator1 Wrote: New here but thought I'd share some info I got on A Machine for Pigs from none other than Dan Pinchbeck. I played The Dark Descent and loved it with only one problem I hate Keyboard and mouse controls, I've only been playing on PC for about a year, I grew up playing console games. Anyway I managed to finish the game but it was very hard, so I contacted the chineseroom about controller support and got this reply "Yeah, it'll support controllers", great news right?... ... ... No, that's not good news. Controllers games have relatively been difficult to play if it's not configured correctly and it generally takes the player out of the game due to, well if it's Amnesia, click a trigger and rotate your view. You aren't pulling backwards, you are pulling to the side. It's a bad idea. I'm not saying controllers are bad, but it's like when you port a PC game to Xbox or PS3, it's generally worse than when you keep it on the system it was developed for. Is it good news that more people will play on consoles = profit for the game developers? SURE! Is it a good idea for the controller to be available, possibly but it takes the person out of the game! Yay for breaking the games enveloping dimensions! Now you don't open a door, you press a button! Woo! I grew up playing both PC and console games. Console games are great n' all, but they are overpriced for how weak they are. Build your own PC, play with a mouse and keyboard for more tactful, dexterous and cognitive development and... Well you get the point. |
