MrSteve, somebody must have started your cog to turn. If we trace that back to the past when whole universe started, someone had to turn the cog because system cannot be started by itself. We call the second law of thermodynamics a "law" because it's the way the universe seems to work. It's not inviolate truth, especially when we talk about something as abstract as the beginning of the universe. Our understanding of physics breaks down past a certain point in time. RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Damascus Rose - 09-03-2015 I think frictional's games are meant to be fun. Exploring, uncovering story, living in a different world, scaring the bejeezus out of yourself are all fun as hell. It's just not fun in the traditional 'gamey' sense, but it is in its own unique way. And it's designed that way as well, to be satisfying. Amnesia was one of the most fun games I've experienced and even more so because it did it differently than anything else that I've played. Brus, We don't know what made the universe start, we don't know where the energy came from, nothing has been found in this department to my knowledge, That doesn't mean "therefore magical sky-daddy" that means that we don't know. Assuming magical sky-daddy is simply making an assumption since you cannot prove it with hard facts. Anyway Back on topic, I won't get to play the game on release D= When I get out of bootcamp you guys better not spoil anything for me >.< I'll have so many CS's to play with and new people to get to know when the influx of newbies come around. RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Blackrobin - 09-03-2015 Let's say you are severed in half from the waist, which half do you reside in? I think the concept of 'me' comes from consciousness or the brain. There is no 'me' in objects without a conscious RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - MrSteve - 09-03-2015 (09-03-2015, 05:33 AM)7heDubz Wrote:(09-02-2015, 06:30 PM)brus Wrote: Second law of thermodynamics: you cannot start the machine if the energy hasn't been input. Thanks Dubz; that's pretty much what I was going to say ![]() We could argue to the cows come home on the existence of God/The universe's origins, so we'll just agree to disagree ![]() As for being sliced in half, it's all well and good saying that it's not you NOW, but I'm pretty sure people who have experienced similar situations feel that they've lost a large portion of themselves ![]() I believe we are the sum of all our parts. Take this for example. Human sexual urges are driven by hormones and their sexual organs. This is where the need to 'procreate' derives. Those feelings and urges are part of your mental makeup or losely put, 'soul'. Most people like to feel horny. They like to have sex. That's part of their personality, what makes them, them. If you were to lose those organs and those needs, thoughts and emotions no longer exist, are you not fundamentally changed mentally by losing part of your physical self? Is your mind and soul not changed? Are you still totally you without a driving part of your emotional self? I want to play this game so badly! RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - Romulator - 09-03-2015 Stef, could we get a source on that? ![]() Edit: I know you answered below me, but FG also just added a new entry to the blog which has the same set of questions, and the trailer also posted earlier; http://frictionalgames.blogspot.com.au/2015/09/top-three-questions-about-soma.html Thanks! :3 RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - stef - 09-03-2015 Frictional's facebook page ![]() RE: The Ultimate SOMA Discussion Thread - GrAVit - 09-03-2015 I really like the underwater atmosphere in this.
