Well for Alexander I did have it in my head that Donald Sutherland would be an awesome Alexander, but then it's really a question of: which elderly actor does the audience want to see the withered, raisiny junk of?

I'm thinking Daniel could be played by Alexander Siddig, although probably a bit younger than he is now. That gray beard he has now is hideous! He matches a lot of Topping's mannerisms and has a sort of Afro-English accent that would fit well with Daniel's worldly travels. He also rocks the long hair nicely:

I see I'm not the only one who thought of Ben Barnes! I also think Charlie Cox would be a nice choice.
