well the only reason i'm arguing on here is because i'm bored. i'm not demeaning anyone i just want to have a conversation while giving my 2 cents. and yes Saint Vitus is heavy metal. i've met wino and St.Vitus by the way and they definitely wouldn't mind anyone calling there music Heavy Metal. Doom metal was a word made by the fans not by the bands themselves. i guarantee you wino would say Saint Vitus and his first band the Obsessed is Heavy Metal not Doom. listen to the guitar solo in the St. Vitus song pure fucking Heavy Metal.

A lot of my interest in the macabre video games comes from my love for metal:
Rammstein, King Diamond, Metallica, Cradle of Filth, and Judas Priest.
If it's dark, sinister, and sounds like it came straight out of hell, it's my kind of music.

Odd that my first post here after lurking for nearly a year would be in this thread, but...
Yeah, love Metal myself. Death, Technical, Brutal, Grind, Doom, Thrash, Math....
I can't say I'm 'kvlt' or anything like that. I do like some of the 'mainstream' metal acts such as Lamb of God, but for the most part that's it as 'mainstream metal' goes. Not a huge Metalcore or Deathcore fan, though I do make an exception for Iwrestledabearonce (as they make me laugh).
Prefer stuff like Carcass, Suffocation, Neuraxis, Necrophagist, Car Bomb, Incantation, Wormed, Lividity, Lust of Decay, Cattle Decapitaion, Strapping Young Lad, Opeth. Stuff along those lines.
Been getting into Animals As Leaders lately. Brilliant band.
Also like Industrial and (don't hate me for this) 'alternative' as it's still apparently called.

Actually math metal is a name given to a real subgenre.
Some Meshuggah songs would fall under this category.

Yeah, basically what he said. ^ A lot of playing over the bar as well (against the time signature) and complex polyrhythms and buried grooves.
