Jazz - Barney Kessel
Norah Jones

Rock - Led Zeppelin

Indie - Dinosaur Jr.

p.s. Fascism rules.

In todays culture, Indie kids wouldn't have a clue who Dinosaur Jr. are

On a side-note. Found a list called "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" whilst looking up Mascis. It's hilarious. Why? They ranked skrillex at number 100.

You shouldn't take these kinds of lists seriously. They are always highly biased and the term "greatest" is often ill-defined.

EDIT: If you want to hear probably the greatest guitarist of all time listen to this:

Not only one of the most technically proficient guitarists ever, but also a monster improviser and composer.

RE: Your musical taste? - i3670 - 03-11-2013

I've not yet found a list of guitarists that has satisfied me. But that list was just ridiculous because some of the artists listed weren't even guitarists. Where was for instance Jimmy Page or Clapton?

That article got ripped to pieces months ago on Ultimate Guitar, don't worry.

Actually they do a pretty damn good job of justifying it. Sure it probably would have been more accurate to say maybe "top 100 greatest musicians", but if you're just interpreting a guitarist as being the person who carries out the melody of the song, usually through riffs (which Skrillex definitely knows how to do), then that definitely makes sense.

But yeah I've only found 1 or 2 of those "top 100 x" in music that I agreed with.

RE: Your musical taste? - i3670 - 03-11-2013

I define a guitarist as a person/artist who plays guitar or electric guitar, not a person who creates sound through a keyboard.

I'm happy to see Frank Zappa so high on the list.

Even though it is something I do often when I talk about musicians I think that it is wrong to rank someone as the best on their instrument. There are so many possibilities for different things to do with your instrument that it is impossible to cover it all and therefore you can't be the best since someone else have played the same instrument differently and because of that can do things you can't. One might be really good at playing fast notes and another might be good at playing atmospheric melodies, but why should one of them be better than the other at playing said instrument?

But yeah...this article. I agree with the people here doubting it, there are names that I'd preffer to be on the list and names that might be removed. In my opinion Ritchie Blackmore and David Gilmoure have done more than enough to deserve mentioning. And Barrett...I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I'm not so sure about him being one of the best guitarists in the world. He's a great musician, nothing short of a genious, but one of the best at guitars? I'm not sure. He did things with the guitar that noone had done before and that was great but still...I think I say no.

Hendrix was a talent I don't think the world will ever see again.
