HL was a good game, but people over hype it to shit because it was revolutionary when it first came out even though by the standards of many other more recent FPS games it's pretty average. It's like the same thing with AC DC for example, at the time when they were really getting famous what they were doing had never really been done before so it was a really big deal, but since then many other rock bands have used that same formula and done it way better but because of the fame they once had they're still crowned as "the kings of rock". That's just always bugged the shit out of me when people say HL is better for that reason.
