Money.
Money is why there are gender based things.
And i completely agree with what gaming companies do to market their product.
They do it to appeal to their target audience. Your not gonna sell (on average here) an action packed blood/gore game to as many females as you are males. Period. Therefore, marketing it towards men will help you sell games and make profit.
