And please respect the indies, Thank you.QFT Is anyone aware that Minecraft also made it to number 5 on machinama's top ten ftw indie games? I dunno, I just thought it was cool, not nearly as significant as being in guiness world records or anything... I don't give a fuck if you don't like Minecraft, but if you insist on discussing that, at least come with some decent arguments for your views, and we can discuss it properly. Here, I'll start. I think Minecraft is objectively a pretty well-crafted game (holy fuck, worst pun, I'm so sorry), especially considering it was originally a one-man project by a self-taught swede. Personally, I enjoy it very much as both an outlet of creativity and a rather fun adventuring game. Also, exploring all these generated landscapes and vast caverns can be both exhilarating and beautiful, in my opinion. It is in no way perfect, but what is perfect anyway? I think it definitely deserves the spot it got, even though I love Amnesia. It is also, as many here have mentioned before me, a great victory for the indie game industry to have two games on the top of the list.(01-31-2012, 07:09 PM)Timitzi Wrote: Let's just agree that both Minecraft and Amnesia: The Dark Descent deserve to be there, then call it a day.OBJECTION! RE: Is anyone aware of this? - Wooderson - 02-02-2012 Puzzled me how Starcraft 2 got #1. It got little hype from the beginning and I don't know anyone who has played it which is strange if it's so good. Well done to it for that though. I knew he wasn't serious. That is why I wrote that paragraph response, making sure that all my arguments were sound and that it came across as dead serious. If it didn't come across as serious, the irony would be gone. There are multiple layers of irony at work here, as it seems that I am serious, yet it is intended to be ironic. Still, I mean every word. And, as was my intention, people took it at face value. If they hadn't, it wouldn't have been any fun. I'm not sure what types of games you tend to play but you're pushing that border in my mind that is leading me to believe you wank to games like Call of Duty. Me personally, am addicted to Minecraft. For an indie game that is so simple, yet done so well by someone who learned coding ALL ON HIS OWN, it deserves what it has gotten. Can you code that? Nope! Probably not. And yes, AI villagers are dumb, but you don't play the game for them! You play to build and survive. The reason it is so popular is because it's simple and vast. I believe it deserves every cent it has, as well as Amnesia, for two indie developers to be in the top 3 fascinates me and brings me hope. I would play Minecraft before Skyrim any day, I'm sorry. But games are games and the more FUN it is than challenging, the better. Though some times I do like a challenge. Also, Minecraft is DESIGNED to be blocks with a 16bit layout. One, It needs to process THOUSANDS of blocks each second and render random environments. Two, it adds to the theme. Not every game has to have mind-blowing fireworks to blow apart your IQ. Minecraft for me was incredibly fulfilling and fun at first, but nowadays I can't even play it for more than thirty minutes without getting bored because I've pretty much done everything. I would say it is 105% definitely worth the low cost though.
