There are 30 million users on Steam, but are they freely there or were they forced to?

DRM does not work. The piracy was growing up when DRM was released.
DRM only annoy the honest buyer and destroy the fun with the game. So many people don't accept an obligation to internet activation and will pirate the game. And I have to say, that's the correct act. Because DRM protection is not acceptable!
When I want to read a book, then I take it out of the shelf and read it. I don't need to ask the publisher to permission. And I don't need to register this book online with my persona data account.
When the honest buyer is forced to use Steam to play the game, then I see no illegal to support piracy.
I always want to buy games, but I don't accept Steam or other DRM methods.
And many other people think so.

What is the next act? To make games for consoles only? To join the big mass publishing industry for casual gamerz like EA did? This would be the end of epic gaming!

Not connect this arguments to Frictional Games, this just is a general topic.
These are simply your opinions, you're pulling ''facts'' out of your bum sir, piracy has ALWAYS been around long before DRM came about.

The publishers have all rights to do what ever they want with their product, when we buy games, we don't buy the actuall game, we simply purchase a license to play the game. Steam provides quick and easy downloading of games, extreme price sales that you'd never get anywhere else ( For example I picked up Trine 2 and Gotham city impostors the other day for about 15 euros, DAUM! ) If you don't like using steam that's fine but you have no reason what-so-ever to call it a bad service. If I lost or damaged a game disk for example, I'd be really freakin' happy I have the game registred to my steam account so that I can still play it just the same. If done correctly, DRM is great, and steam is currently the best damn DRM out there.

Uh what was the point of linking those articles ? He clearly said that piracy has been going on long before DRM was announced.

That's not the point, there never will be a protection what avoid piracy.
And DRM only hinders people’s enjoyment of the game and interfere the honest users.
There is no difference to piracy.

When developers make an userfriendly protection, or maybe none, and make an attractive price, then I'm sure, more people decided to buy games instead of use an illegal copy.
It's inacceptable that the legal buyers are handicapped of DRM.
Steam could be optional for people who like it, but not a must for all.

I was asking myself this question too.

This thread somehow managed to get even more stupid after I left.
