In gaming they usually make the first game brilliant( example- Suffering,Wolfenstein,Fear,Dead space etc..) but the second one is in a lot of cases a shadow of the first game.
I could be wrong but screaming pigs in chinatown just don't cut it for me.
Are you slow? Independent games don't do that. Take for example, Penumbra was before Amnesia. Same basic idea, the interaction and the AI has been dumbed down in Amnesia, but the scares are better.

The games you mentioned are "mainstream". They are made by big companies to better suit the entire population. Well, Wolfenstein was independent, the first one at least. Eventually, DOOM was created out of Wolfenstein (much scarier), but the mechanics were dumbed down. Doom 3 was the epitome of scare fest, but it was repetitive so it was lame (I really like that game, by the way, fan of the series right here).

Dead Space and Doom/ Wolfenstein, FEAR are the climax of repetitive shooters. They are exactly the same but with new graphics and overused functions. Nothing is unique in those. Suffering was at least a little different, but again, mainstream - when I say mainstream, I mean the company like ID software is mainstream, not the game itself.

Could you tell me what you are basing this off of besides your gut feeling? The "screaming pigs in chinatown" which was shown is basically just a monster encounter like the one we're all so familiar with in the original Amnesia.
Instict hasn't fooled me before.Don't underestimate your instincts.I watched the dark knight rises trailer and i knew the movie would be absolute shit, and then when i watched i realised i was right.I said i could be wrong, would like to be wrong on this one.

I don't think this game will suck, it just won't live up to the original nor surpass it.
My insticts have been fairly accurate in the past, i would love to be wrong but we shall see.
If your instincts were as good as your spelling, grammar and typing, I don't think I'd like to trust your instincts and I don't think you should either.

That is what I first thought when I watched one of TDD's trailers, before I had ever played it.

RE: Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs Discussion - Saty - 12-18-2012

I am slow for having a different opinion?
Interesting.Games i mentioned are mainstream but Suffering isn't.It is as far
from being a mainstream game as Leonardo Da Vinci was from building an
aeroplane!
Penumbra series are very underrated, but Amnesia is a bit more
mainstream isn’t it?

Now looking at my post there were some grammar mistakes but is
this a typing forum? No. So using them is a straw man argument.
Suffering is arguably the scariest game i’ve played where you have weapons.BP
and ADD were even scarier cause you don’t have nothing and that is the beaty of
it.They are what you called a true survival horror game. Mainstream or „Underground“
it doesn’t matter.Once a person gets bored of regular survival horror games
where you have a knife, pistol, shotgun, sniper, grenade launcher and everything but the
kitchen sink he will look for games like this. There are some games that are being
listed in the same bucket with Penumbra and Amnesia like Darkness Within yet
nothing could be further from the truth.

It should be out in early 2013, i'd say maybe february or march so we shall see

I watched the trailer first and was disappointed after I noticed the demo level wasn't avaiable in entrance hall.
They replaced it with refinery, but the demo level was looking better and much scarier.

From what I've seen of Pewdie over all this time, I know that he can simmer down, and have full respect for a game if he feels the need for it, and AMFP is definitely one that he will respect.
Well he better or I'll kill him
You're pathetic. Seriously, get a life. Or Fallout 3. Big world to explore. Interesting sidequests. Also GNR.

How someone can be able to play a first person game with a controller, without feeling like he's playing with his feet, will forever be beyond my understanding... but hey, if it means you can enjoy the game more that way, I'm certainly happy for you! ^^
It's really nice to hear they are answering emails, too. I bet not many devs do that Smile

Anyway I managed to finish the game but it was very hard, so I contacted the chineseroom about controller support and got this reply "Yeah, it'll support controllers", great news right?

No, that's not good news. Controllers games have relatively been difficult to play if it's not configured correctly and it generally takes the player out of the game due to, well if it's Amnesia, click a trigger and rotate your view. You aren't pulling backwards, you are pulling to the side. It's a bad idea. I'm not saying controllers are bad, but it's like when you port a PC game to Xbox or PS3, it's generally worse than when you keep it on the system it was developed for.

Is it good news that more people will play on consoles = profit for the game developers? SURE! Is it a good idea for the controller to be available, possibly but it takes the person out of the game! Yay for breaking the games enveloping dimensions! Now you don't open a door, you press a button! Woo!

I grew up playing both PC and console games. Console games are great n' all, but they are overpriced for how weak they are. Build your own PC, play with a mouse and keyboard for more tactful, dexterous and cognitive development and... Well you get the point.
