Don't mind this post.

I wonder if they'll keep the screeching chase music...or make any alterations to it.

It being minimalistic has nothing to do with it, I just find the music flat-out boring. The Korsakova thing is terrible by the way.

Perhaps you've set your standards too high?
Although we must all remember that it's all a matter of taste.
You can't expect everyone to like it.

Of course. It's just my opinion.

Dear Esther has been nominated for numerous awards, in audio design also and Jessica Curry is in a list of Britain's top 100 influential women in gaming.

I do respect your opinion but I, and a lot of other people, think Dear Esthers OST is phenomenal.

Just listening to 'I Have Begun My Ascent' gives me chills Smile

So? Moby-Dick was very badly received by critics when it came out and Obama won a freaking Nobel Peace Prize. Awards, and especially lists, don't mean anything. I think the music is unappealing, which I base on many years experience listening critically to all kinds of music, including scores from hundreds of movies and video games. Is my opinion invalid because some list says otherwise?

EDIT: BTW, if you like "I Have Begun My Ascent", I recommend you check this out if you haven't heard it:

Same two chord vamp.

Me :'I do respect your opinion'

Did you not read my comment.

I wasn't trying to upset or criticize you, I was simply offering another opinion, as you were, but as you're going on the condescending path....

You contradicted yourself in a sort of way. You say that it is only your opinion, and yet are now explaining why your opinion is more important than the lesser folks who don't have a 'solid background' in listening to music. That isn't pretentious in the slightest.

Down the musical path, complexity doesn't mean the music is better. The C maj to the A flat and back (and Rome doesn't go back to c major for 2 bars and then repeat), I know, as been used and repeated in a great number of other pieces in other keys. In LOTR, the elvish theme is sort of similar and so on so forth. Just because other pieces have the same harmonic progression does not mean it is boring, i think that is what you were getting at with the 'Same two chord' stuff insinuating I wasn't aware that progressions are reused in music.

Timbre and usage of instruments is what gives music based on chords individuality - practically all appealing chord sequences have been by some composer at some time. I like how the 2 chord theme are used in the instrument in 'I have begun my ascent', much more than the Rome song. You may not

I agree, I would like some more music from Jess that is based on melody as she seems to use chords as a starting point too much and the melody feels tacked on and is slightly boring. I still really like it though.

I wasn't saying that popularity means greater quality either. I'm just saying that out of the masses of people who played Dear Esther a lot of people liked the music which seams to be the case.

But I do think Mikko Tarmia's score is going to be near impossible to beat.

Oh, and by favorite song from the dark descent's OST is the back hall...

Maybe I am a sucker for repeating chord sequences Smile

Sorry for the long, nerdy comment

Bridge, tell us your opinion of music in AAMFP teasers. It is boring, too simple, or even terrible?

Sorry you feel that way, I did not want to give off a condescending vibe at all. The only thing I was trying to say was my reason for not liking the music is thought out and not lazy. And honestly, when you try to prove someone wrong by saying a lot of people hold a contrary opinion - that is ad populum reasoning, no matter how you say it. Otherwise, why even bring up the fact that it got awards?

Also, the "same two chord vamp" comment was just a passive comment that I included with the link. I'm not trying to say that the Rome theme is better, although I think it is, just that: if those two bare chords, in their simplest voicings with some strings on top give you the chills, then you might enjoy this. Y'know, a friendly recommendation. I was just trying to point out that a lot more can be done with that same basic progression.

C'mon, dude. On the off chance that you're not kidding, then I can't say I'm that impressed to be honest. The actual in-game music we've heard so far is too sparse to comment on anyway. We're gonna have to wait for the game itself.

You haven't offended me, don't worry :L

'when you try to prove someone wrong by saying a lot of people hold a contrary opinion'

No, I really wasn't trying to prove you wrong in the first place, at all. I was not trying to make your argument invalid. I may have phrased it wrong subtly implying that you are wrong but really I wasn't.

I was just saying I like the music, others like me are awaiting aamfp OST as they share my love of Dear Esthers music, therefore I think/hope Jessica Curry is a good choice for a composer and I can't wait for the release. Others can rightly disagree with me and there opinion is not at all wrong. Music is indisputably subjective so any such argument is pointless.
