Thank you for linking this. Before I read this I didn't really have an opinion about the teaser, but the sheer mention of Journey in the blog made me want to keep close tabs on this right now. Dev's mindsets are great for creating something really interesting.

It certainly appeals to a lot of people, and everyone does not have to like everything. Games still have a long way to go, so for the sake of learning lets encourage diversity instead!
I would say most of the charm in Dear Esther comes from the fact that the writing and music is excellent + Robert Briscoe "the incredible cave maker". The lack of interactivity just pulls the whole experience down.

If you don't concentrate on mechanics & interactivity, doesn't your game approach the genre of movies? Where is the diversity and experimentation in that?

Giving the player basic fps controls gives quite a lot of mechanics and freedom to clearly separate a game from a movie though. A system similar to amnesia might be enough for now?

Among the Sleep - Brosive - 11-28-2012

So, while I was looking for new horror games to buy in 2013, I found this interesting one called Among the Sleep.

Here is the gameplay teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWDQN_X5b-M

What I found so, interesting about it is that you play as a 2 year-old toddler. Some people are saying that making him 2 has "gone to far". I wanted to know what your opinions about this are.

RE: Among the Sleep - Froge - 11-28-2012

I lol'ed.

No, age doesn't matter. I've played games where the main character was an unborn fetus before.

Yea, I know just wanted your opinion. Don't know why people are even saying that, it's like no one has even seen the Dead Island trailer.

Why did I laugh so hard at that...

RE: Among the Sleep - Froge - 11-28-2012

Well the way he worded it it sounds like the stereotypical news report on a game like GTA where a bunch of middle class white people get together and complain how violence and sexual themes in video games have gone too far and are corrupting our youth... but Instead it's about playing as a two year old.

RE: Among the Sleep - Juby - 11-28-2012

I want a game where the main character is a ficus.
