The Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid games, nothing comes even close IMO. And like nackidno said, The Elder Scrolls (Morrowind & Oblivion). I especially like the storyline for the thieves guild in those games.
Also: Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth!
