Framerates not up to expectations - AspiringFailure - 06-05-2012 Now, it's not a severe problem. My setup is: Core 2 Duo @ 2.00 GHZ 2 GB RAM ATI Radeon Mobility x2300 On low (With medium textures) I can barely get away with a framerate of 12 - 18 FPS. This is playable, but not wholly enjoyable or immersion, and even worse that's at 640x480 resolution. I do NOT have the latest "legacy" drivers from AMD's website, because for some reason they don't support the x2300 (Which for those of you wondering is basically an x1350) I do have the latest drivers from HP but I doubt they're as up to date as AMD's legacy drivers. My main question is if such unplayable framerate is typical of my setup? Has anybody else with an x1350 or x2300 tried this game? I read in another thread one of the creators of the game running it with a much lower-end setup than mine, so I can't help but feel like I should at least be able to hit 30 FPS. I also dislike how the textures look on anything other than "high", but that brings the game to a downright crawl. xD I am playing with SSAO disable, bloom and all the motion blur effects disabled, parallax disabled, and shadows on low res and quality btw. My version of Amnesia is the one included with the Humble Indie Bundle so if there's a patch I'm missing that is known to help, let me know. (I do have HORRID Internet though, so... if it's not going to help I probably can't bear to wait it out ^_^ ) RE: Framerates not up to expectationsNow, - jens - 06-05-2012 Make sure that you have no other programs running while playing and no background process that can eat performance. Also if your system is capable of running accelerated graphics in the OS, make sure those are off before running the game (by switching to a simple default theme). RE: Framerates not up to expectations - AspiringFailure - 06-05-2012 ^Yeah, trust me, I've taken pains to maximize my FPS. No background activity, no aero, card is set to performance, etc. In all reality the game is PLAYABLE. I just feel like it should do a LOT better than it does. The game looks pretty ugly on low. By comparison, I can play The Sims 3 and Portal 2 at 30 FPS at higher resolutions and with the graphics on higher settings. (In Portal 2's case, all maxed out except AA and AF) RE: Framerates not up to expectations - plutomaniac - 06-05-2012 Well in this case you can try new modified drivers that work with unsupported hardware. If you have Windows Vista/7 32/64-bit you can use this for example: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/mobility-radeon-drivers-support/206549-ati-catalyst-mobility-11-12-display-drivers-notebook-computers-13-12-2011-a.html If you have Windows XP 32-bit you can manually do it by following this guide: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/mod-cat-amd-mobility-modder/207651-mod-cat-ver-0-4-0-0-installation-notes.html What operating system do you have? RE: Framerates not up to expectations - AspiringFailure - 06-05-2012 I am running Windows 7 64bit. I don't think it would be safe to force drivers meant for other cards on mine, though. It's not on 11.12 compatibility list, so I'm not going to try it. However, I WILL try modifying the original Legacy drivers for the x1350 with Mobility Modder and then get back to you on that. If anybody else has anymore advice, feel free to spew it out. My whole dream in life right now is to play Amnesia smoothly with decent graphics. BTW, I've only started the game and so far it's gotten a bigger reaction from me than any other Horror game. Definitely makes up for how un-scary Downpour was. :3 RE: Framerates not up to expectations - plutomaniac - 06-05-2012 well modified drivers is the only way for you so tell us what you can do with mobility modder RE: Framerates not up to expectations - AspiringFailure - 06-06-2012 Well, no difference at all with the legacy drivers. I guess I'm just doomed to a laggy Amnesia experience. T_T There's NOBODY else that's played with an x1300 or x2300 that can tell me how their experience was? RE: Framerates not up to expectations - plutomaniac - 06-06-2012 This card is old. It is normal that Amnesia runs like that. Search the forum, maybe someone else in the past opened a topic about this card. RE: Framerates not up to expectations - AspiringFailure - 06-06-2012 I know it's normal. But playing Portal 2 on high makes it really easy for me to have unrealistic expectations about performance on other games. xD! RE: Framerates not up to expectations - plutomaniac - 06-06-2012 These games use DirectX and not OpenGL like Amnesia does. Officially (when released) according to AMD.com your card supports OpenGL 2.0 and with latter drivers, OpenGL 2.1 which is the bare minimum to play Amnesia. |
