Hello,
System:
Win7 x64 Pro
Desktop
Core 2 Quad Q9650
Nvidia Geforce 480 (Drivers current as of late June/Early July)
Here is what I've got going on. When I launch the game using Steam Library, the launcher comes up. When I use the launcher to say "Launch Game" the launcher closes but nothing else happens. I have also tried launching directly from the .exe. I have also verified the game cache and reinstalled the game, but still have had no luck.
I don't have the HPL.log yet because I have never successfully launched the game. I am attaching a DXDiag report though. Let me know if there is anything else I can get you.

something might interfere, like anti-virus or simillar. or possibly a permission problem with writing to the my documents folder.
