You use the model editor to edit enemies. Under "user defined variables."

RE: How to make Enemies - Traggey - 08-08-2012

They are created using 3D modeling software such as 3Ds Max, Maya, blender, XSI etc etc, that also in combination with image editing programs such as photoshop and mesh sculpting programs like Zbrush or Mudbox.

These take alot of dedication and time to learn how to use.

Definitely thought this thread was gonna be a how-to about making people hate you. I guess browsing the forums hung-over isn't the best idea, then!

RE: How to make Enemies - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - 08-08-2012

Ok,ok wait a second. Just so we're on the same page here, cuz I'm a bit confused about what you know already and what not: An enemy consists of three main elements. The first one is the mesh, thats the 3d geometry it is made of. The second part is the skeleton that is inside the mesh and used to animate it. The third one is the material which is the color of the enemy and which also tells the engine how the mesh will react to light. (shininess etc.)

Now to edit the mesh or create a new one and to create animations you'll need a 3D program like the ones we've mentioned. The material consists of several texture maps which can be edited in 2D programs like Photoshop or Gimp.

The Model Editor is, despite its name, not meant for modeling or animating. Traggey can probably tell you a lot more about it than I, (cuz I've never worked with HPL engine) but as far as I know it's just there to make the model "engine-ready", that is tell the engine what materials to use etc. so you create your model in 3ds Max or whatever, export it, run it through the model editor and then use it in your mod.

the modeleditor.exe included with the level editor is just there for applying things like hitboxes, setting usages for the object and giving it gravity settings and so on, you don't actually create the objects in there, that's all done with external programs that I mentioned before.
