EA innovation: "No more single player!" - Prelauncher - 09-08-2012

This week the consumer friendly and developer focused and not at all evil company EA announced that they will never again green light another single player game, from now on every game published by EA must have a multiplayer feature.
"We are proud of the way EA evolved with consumer," EA labels president Frank Gibeau said. "I have not green lit one game to be developed as a single player experience. Today, all of our games include online applications and digital services that make them live 24/7/365."
This explains why we now see games like Dead Space and Mass Effect getting multiplayer features and we'll see it in many more.
This doesn't mean games won't have single player, only that they must have online features.
Is this a step forward for video games? Or is it just another leap backwards by the creepy uncle we know as EA?

In my opinion, it's a huge step backwards as this means studios working under EA will be forced to add multiplayer and online applications even though they want to make a great single player experience. We'll see more games with crammed in multiplayer like Bioshock 2 (ugh!) and Dead Space 2 which are only there because...well, because it's multiplayer.
There is a positive side though: This means that we'll never see Frictional Games working for EA, even though it wasn't very likely in the first place, this now means that they'd have to create an multiplayer component for Amnesia. Stay independent, FG! Smile
And EA, keep on digging your grave ol' chap!

Edit: And before anyone points it out: I am aware that Bioshock is not published by EA! It's just an example of crammed in, shitty multiplayer.

you have to admit that EA made alot of cool games like SSX,Mass Effect and Battlefield, and i wonder if they work for rockstar games... they would make a game like LA NOIRE.

Uhm, I didn't say that studios developing games under EA haven't made any good games...it's just that they'll now be forced to add online features i.e. multiplayer.
And no, EA working for Rockstar? I don't see that happening.

it's always good to have a multiplayer mode on a game xD, like on bioshock 1, they made a 9 hour campaign, but after you finish the campaign you have to sell the game, because you have nothing more to do with it...multiplayer will only make the things moar... interesting... but i know your point of vision xD EA alredy did many bad things, like saying that mass effect 3 had alot of endings but when you bought the game and play it to the end, there are only 3 endings, no matter if you are renegade or paragon... and now they will start to put effort on multiplayer games, hahaha, they are dead xD (google translator)

EA was not always a bad game company.

Before it went downhill there was epic EA games like 007 NightFire, Mirror's Edge, EA Sports, etc.

I think after the year 2010 things started to get going downhill with EA.
