RE: IGN calls Outlast, "The next Amnesia" - PutraenusAlivius - 03-27-2013

AMNESIA

OUTLAST
------
The odds are high. NOTHING can beat Amnesia as the scariest game in the whole wide world. Except it's successor, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.

Oh man, REC all the way

The movie was very good now let's see about the game

Oh and no, it will never beat Amnesia.

Yeah, well...that's all just jumpscares he's describing there. Especially the first ones are the standard stuff that even Doom 3 already did back then. The trailer doesn't really convince me either - especially that whole body animation stuff (having the character touch the environment, etc) feels gimmicky as hell. Not to mention the fact that they openly show the enemy in the trailer - what a bunch of amateurs! Big Grin
And just as a reminder: Amnesia didn't need any extra dramatic horror-movie violin shreeking in their trailer to make it feel tense... Wink

So, no, I don't think this will be the "next Amnesia" or whatever. Still, if it's cheap enough I think I'll give it a try when it comes out.

I have to agree with showing the enemy, don't think that helped them at all to sell the scare factor. But I still think the jump scares could be a good thing, IF implemented very well...

Why you guys keep hating this game just because it's not Amnesia?

RE: IGN calls Outlast, "The next Amnesia" - rtjhbfvsrry - 03-27-2013

Haters gonna hate? Amnesia is well loved here, obviously, and people don't take kindly to other games being compared to it, I suppose.

I'm intrigued. I might pick it up soon.

EDIT: Or not. I thought that was a review for a second, not a preview.

FG Forum is the home of Amnesia fanboyism.

It looks good, it is not the next Amnesia but it is for sure something like it, and good looking.

Opposing the notion that one of the landmarks of gaming (certainly of horror) is going to be replaced is not fanboyism, it's respect.

I don't think that's what "The Next Amnesia" implies at all. That sounds more like "the next game as scary as Amnesia", which is possible and doesn't take away all the game horror that Amnesia pioneered.

Fanboyism.
