Good survival horror games? - Tiger - 11-26-2012 So I like horror games but I can't tend to find any? Does anybody have any suggestions? RE: Good survival horror games? - Bridge - 11-26-2012 Depending on how lenient you are on the "survival horror" part (because most survival horror games are shit) I can recommend these to you: Penumbra and Amnesia of course Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth Cryostasis (it's good but not great - definitely worth playing though) Both Riddick games (not survival horror per se but they are quite dark and at times scary) All of the Thief games (same as above) Also there is this game called Realms of the Haunting which I have on GOG that I've been meaning to play. From what I've read it sounds like it could be one of the best unknown games ever, and it is supposed to have some really frightening sections (but I don't know). RE: Good survival horror games? - failedALIAS - 11-26-2012 ![]() Heard of it? RE: Good survival horror games? - Froge - 11-27-2012 A lot of horror veterans consider the first three Silent Hill games to be the golden age of the survival horror genre. While Silent Hill isn't as intense as A:TDD, it conveys a different, perhaps more subtle kind of horror. It is also generally fun to play and has very interesting characters. If you're interested in short indie horror games, I'd recommend Ib or Ao Oni, both of which are quite famous on the Internet. RE: Good survival horror games? - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - 11-27-2012 Quote: Vampire: The Masquerade - BloodlinesHell yeah! This game is an underappreciated gem! And while it isn't exactly survival horror, it has some very scary levels and a great atmosphere overall. Ocean House Hotel regularly appears on all sorts of rankings of "scariest levels ever"... O.O It also has some of the funniest dialogue I ever encountered in a game and it's only 15€ on Steam. So go pick it up ![]() I can also recommend: Condemned: Criminal Origins (Maybe the best first person melee combat ever, some VERY scary levels, just enough supernatural elements to be intriguing but not so many that it would feel clichée.) The Void (Very surreal game. Not exactly horror but very dark and scary in an almost subliminal way. Gameplay is rather experimental and quite difficult at times but definitely interesting, with a strong focus on exploration. It's only 2,24€ on Steam right now so there's no reason to not give it a try - if only for the novelty.) Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (Only available for Gamecube. An old but good horror game inspired by Lovecraft. Known for having a crazy insanity mechanic that regularly breaks the fourth wall.) I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream: (A very old Point and Click Adventure with an interesting storyline. Not available for purchase anymore as far as I know, but may or may not be found as abandonware somewhere. Worth a look I'd say, but will need DosBox or scummVM to run.) RE: Good survival horror games? - TheBlastPassage - 11-27-2012 Is Ao Oni even scary? RE: Good survival horror games? - TheBlastPassage - 11-27-2012 I'm sure everybody did RE: Good survival horror games? - The chaser - 11-27-2012 Hylophobia is a good indie game too. It scared me well for a while ![]() SCP and SCP-Containment beach are very scary games too, with a frightening atmosphere (SCP are only dark stairs, but, well, you'll see when you play it). Slender... well, I think you know it. The list that people is listing here will lead me to not meet my family for a looooong time... RE: Good survival horror games? - TheBlastPassage - 11-27-2012 Thanks chaser, I'm gonna check out Hylophobia |
