Computer crash with or without patch 1.01 - cinemanjpl - 03-29-2008

Hi,

First i want to thank you for what seems like a great game, unfortunately im having a constant crash situation that occurs in the beginning of the game near the vending machine or around. I have to restart my computer each time, its kind of frustrating. Other thant that, everything is perfect with the game.

I have installed the patch 1.01 and my video card isnt overheating and i tried previous versions of ati catalyst.

I would like to know if theres something i can do to repair this issue, or if theres a second patch on the way.

My specs are :

ati radeon x1650 (catalyst 8.3)
1280 mb ram
pentium 4 2,4g

Do you have boxed or downloaded version of the game?

Could you also copy the contents of hpl.log found in:
"My Documents/Penumbra/Black Plague/"

Might be that the installation is corrupted, try uninstalling and then reinstalling.

If that does not work, say exactly how and when the crash happens.

What let you think my installation is corrupted? I can play the first room of the game with no problems, then i take the vent shaft, to the next room and my screen turns black at random. I cant say exactly where the bug is cause its never the exact same place. Its often when i enter the second vent shaft.

Im wondering if its because i havent installed OpenAl drivers?
Or maybe the problem is in dxdiag sound accelleration?

Let me know what you think about this, meanwhile ill try reinstall

I reinstalled the game, played for about 1 min and then when i picked up a brick at the left of the vending machine, it crashed again...

Any suggestions?

There where alot of errors on sound files that could not be loaded, but OpenAL seemed to have initialized correctly (although you can never be sure when it comes to drivers, etc).

However, if you have not installed OpenAL, then you need to do so since that surely is the error.

Did you try installing OpenAL?

You can also try installing the newest drivers for your sound card.
