I'M DESPERATE - str4wberrypanic - 12-19-2012

Latelly, a big amount of people have complained about my custom story, " The Seed ". And i've found why it's all right in my PC and it doesn't work with another people.

The thing is: all maps are done, but when i remove then from Local Disc C, they suddenly become a past project.
Like this:

(Loading the map from Local Disc C)

(Loading the same file from desktop)

And it happens with a lot of files. I'm really sad with this, and a lot of people think that i haven't tested the map before releasing it. Anyone know anything about this? ( it happens with a lot of files, it's because of this that the pressure plate puzzle is bugged )

What OS are you running on? I'm not sure if you're giving us all the info we need... Is the desktop file loading an older version, or is it just missing entities?

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore

Statyk, i'm loading the same map. And it's not just missing entities, everything is gone when i load the map in the desktop, but when i load it in the custom stories folder, it loads normally. This is why players are complaining about it, the desktop loads an older version. And what's an OS?

RE: I'M DESPERATE - Statyk - 12-19-2012

Well, for one, you shouldn't be playing custom stories off of your desktop, so I don't know why or how you're doing that in the first place. The game needs to load through specific directories and nothing in Amnesia searches your desktop for information.

And OS = Operating System. It looks like you're running on Windows 7. I asked YC awhile ago and it seems as though Amnesia isn't located in a Win7 VirtualStore, so I don't know if what YC is suggesting will help.

NEVER load maps from your desktop, if it's what you are saying. Delete ALL map_cache and make a backup from all the maps, one for "Good" and another for "Past maps". Try only the good maps and let's see how it goes Wink

He loaded the map from the desktop for trouble shooting purposes, obviously. The level editor doesn't care where the map file is stored.

But why would you troubleshoot in a location that the person downloading the story is not going to put it?

Many people have the tendency to download and extract everything to the desktop, even if there are standard places for it. Most people have a messy desktop, i would argue he's one of those people.

I wasn't playing amnesia from the desktop. I just moved it to the desktop because i was going to zip the file to upload it. Everything worked fine before i moved it, but when the players started downloading it, some maps wasn't complete.

By the way, there's no map.cache files.
