What problems does Amnesia have with levels in the outdoors?

I read somewhere on the forum that the game does not do as well when the levels are set outside. Why does the game have an issue with it?

It's mainly because they don't have a directional lightsource available (for sunlight and moonlight) so people try to use multiple, large, shadowcasting spotlights and it's just a little more stressful on performance if not optimized.

Also AFAIK, the individual maps are fairly small, so to make a large outdoor area, it's a design challenge to properly section it off without it looking too unnatural (??)
