Laptop crashing soon after play starts - Jen - 06-25-2013
Hi folks,
I have read and I have searched, so I apologise if I have missed the obvious. I've read in 2 threads what seems to me to be conflicting, I don't have a 6 series nvidia graphics card but from the threads here my GeForce GT 540M should work.
I downloaded the demo today after upgrading my Nvidia to driver version 320.18. The game started without problems but after a few minutes of play my laptop crashed and did this twice.
From my log, which I've attached:
Setting up OpenGL
Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Renderer: GeForce GT 540M/PCIe/SSE2
Version: 4.3.0
Toshiba i7 windows 7 laptop
64 bit operating system

What do you mean your laptop crashed? Did the nvidia driver crash or you has a DSOD for example?

I'm sorry I don't know...my laptop turned itself off suddenly. I had no warning or error messages.

Most probably then you are having other issues non-related to the game itself. Before the sudden shut down, did it show any blue screen? My guess would be high processor temperature resulting in shutting the system down to prevent damage from excessive heat. Have you tried other games to see if the same happens?

There was no change at all...it went straight from play to being shut down.
It did used to do this playing Sims 3 but I resolved it with clearing the fan and using a cooling fan underneath and I watch the health monitor, which shows the CPU temperature...I guess this game is pushing it a lot more. Thank you.

Yes, the problem is cpu overheating. I suggest asking from someone with the knowledge to open the laptop to:
1) Clean all the dust from inside
2) Change the cpu & gpu thermal paste
Both these should solve your problem without needing external coolers etc...
