Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - AmnesiaFreak - 08-21-2013 Hey guys. Just wanted to know your opinion, wich one is the best? RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - fancreeper - 08-21-2013 Amnesia.Reason:puzzles in ATDD were better than puzzles in Penumbra. In penumbra I was geting stuck a lot,but in amnesia I think I just got stuck once. RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - i3670 - 08-21-2013 I actually liked the puzzles in Penumbra more because I felt they were more engaging. You had to think more for example the puzzle in the computer central. I found the puzzles in Amnesia more simple, connect pipe here, use item here. RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - Sampyli - 08-21-2013 Surprisingly I've heard no more than a handful of people say that Amnesia is better than Penumbra. That has mostly been this forum though, so .. RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - Diz - 08-21-2013 I feel Amnesia: The Dark Descent is better than any of the Penumbra games. To me, Amnesia offered a much better story, immersive atmosphere, dark style and deeper horror. Penumbra was great, as well, but my personal opinion is that they cannot match The Dark Descent. I did play Amnesia first, yes, but generally I just feel the older age and its contents eerie and scary by itself, and while the AI was easy to avoid, it just felt a whole lot more supernatural, mysterious and creepy to me. RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - Googolplex - 08-22-2013 Penumbra is better than Amnesia, but especially Overture, not Black Plague. The reason is that there is less massive note reading to tell the story, there are much more challenging physics based puzzles, and the game felt not like a "game". Horror in Penumbra wasn't forced (like screen effects etc.) it still felt earnestly. The dogs, spiders and the infected were scarier than the grunts. Penumbra has the option to examine objects and read the player thoughts, the diary notes also are better formulated which takes a big effect to the immersion. And in the mining complex/shelter I felt more "isolated" and in danger than in the castle. Overall Penumbra is a better experience with much more content and complexity than Amnesia. But when you ask only about Black Plague and Amnesia, I think Amnesia is a better whole game, because the end of Black Plague is a bit strange and the game is too short. Also scarier means not better, and I think that Penumbra is at least as good as Amnesia. And when you compare the Collection to Amnesia, Penumbra is even better. RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - cantremember - 08-22-2013 My Black Plague likes: - more direction confrontations with monsters, who don't disappear. In Amnesia it's just, hear the music, hide, wait for music to stop & come back out - More scary setting (Amnesia was too much like a haunted house) My Amnesia likes: - Sanity system - More dark areas - Better graphics RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - Yuhaney - 08-24-2013 I kinda liked the sci-fi setting in Penumbra more. Also I also found the story in BP more believable somehow. I felt it was just too much with a being of an alternate universe too much in Amnesia. The evil/good spirit in BP somehow felt more real. RE: Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra: The Black Plague? - Hardarm - 08-25-2013 Amnesia: The Black Plague or Penumbra: The Dark Descent? I prefer Amnesia but I like Overture and Amnesia in equal maneer, maybe amnesia is fairly better: it's a more polished and cured game. |
