Amneisa constantly crashes during play - Inkling - 08-27-2013

Amnesia always crashes within 5 minutes of starting play, usually when I am turning to look at something. The image freezes for several seconds (I can see the motion blur effect) , then there's a a brief flash of a repeating white diamond pattern on black, then the screen goes white and stays that way until I tell Windows to close the program.

Playing via Steam on Win 7 64 bit with a Radeon HD 4870. Steps I've taken to solve to troubleshoot so far:

-Updated GPU drivers to the latest
-Confirmed that my GPU supports OpenGL 2.1+
-Verified the "integrity of the game cache"
-Delete configuration file and user profile
-Restart the computer
-Disable Steam overlay
-Run gamewith no other programs running
-Disable AVG anti-virus
-Revert to auto-detect settings
-Disabled SSAO
-Currently experimenting with reducing settings.
-Next step will be to re-install the game.

How do I stop the crashes?

Please post the hpl.log file as instructed in the troubleshooting guide. Run the game to the point where it crashes and then take the hpl.log and post it here.

You have done pretty much all suggestions we would have given you already so not sure what could be the problem. It do sound as though the graphics card is overheating, so if you have overclocked it try and run it using standard settings. Possibly if your computer is old, it might be a good idea to clean it from dust if possible.

Thanks for the info. Card is not overclocked. SpeedFan reports idle temps around 52 Celsius; I just watched the game crash with the GPU at 58 Celsius.

No change after a re-install via Steam. I've never played more than 5 minutes without a crash, and sometimes it crashes within 60 seconds. Just tried all settings low (medium textures) and all effects off, and it crashed even *faster* than usual.

There was nothing helpful in the log. You could try and downgrade the drivers for the graphics card. Possibly the crashing is linked to sound, so could try updating drivers for your audio chip/card, or simply try using a different sound output if you have options available.

1) Try question 3 HERE and follow it completely. At step 4 use the latest AMD driver for your graphics card.
2) Disable vSync and SSAO which can sometimes cause crashes for some graphics cards.
