I hope I enjoy it.. but am I right in thinking they have removed the survival things like oil, laudanum and stuff? Seems like they have so far.. which kind of sucks as they were my favourite parts along with the puzzles.

Yeah those are all gone, unfortunately. But don't let that bother you as this game is very good!

"Two levels in and bored.. "

...fairly accurate review.

i'm afraid you picked up the wrong game for you. this game is all about story and immersion and less on jump scares. you should be afraid of ideas and stories, not monsters. might have been a waste of money for you.

it happens, people buy a sequel thinking it will be like the original, but sometimes it's not. i really like this game and very happy i bought it. but not everyone can enjoy it for what it is.

you might like better outlast, i didn't play it but from what i saw it's all about the jumpscares and very little about the story, it looked like the polar opposite of AMFP. AMFP is very good but in a diffrent way from most horror games.

Well don't get me wrong, I enjoy the story but it does irritate me to play games which aren't living upto their full potential! I mean, if its all about story, they may as well have made it a point and click.
But I'll still enjoy it probably.. just not in the same way as Dark Decent.

I just assumed it would be the same since Penumbra and DD were. Not sure why they have strayed from tradition.. its definitely not better so far!

well i think they try and innovate, do something diffrent. the penumbra and amnesia games were amazing and successful because they were diffrent from other horror games. getting rid of the weapons in black plague is kinda of a bold and risky move, much like getting rid of interactive object to pick and play with.

i think a lot of the bad things people claim this game have are right, espacilly advertising badly, it's far from perfect but don't blame them for trying new things and experimenting with mechanics. if they stop doing that we might be getting a new game every year that is basicly the same thing with a new story (sorry but COD jump straight to mind).

give them a fair review and opinion, tell them what you didn't like and needs fixing and what you liked and feels really good. but don't bash them for trying, we will all benefit if they perfect a new style for horror games.

I'll have to see how I feel after completing it Smile But hey I would LOVE an Amnesia game with a new story every year lol. I am sure there would be time to add in a few small things while working on them too. But it seems they are just set on removing stuff this time around. I don't know why. Amnesia was kind of perfect if you ask me.

I just hope it doesn't take another 3 years for something which IMO is 2 steps back.. I do love Frictional Games though so I say all this hoping for better next time rather than to just vent my frustration like many do.

As you say.. constructive criticism!

I'm five hours in and I've just left the sewers. I hope there's going to be some explanation for the machine not actually operating anymore.

If you're past the sewer, then you should know...
Spoiler below!
That there's a saboteur? That was mentioned a few times.

I know that's what was said, but it was also said that
Spoiler below!
Mandus' children were trapped in the bottom of the machine, and it was clear right from the start that they're already dead and he's only hallucinating voices and occasional visions of them. So I'm somewhat skeptical about the idea of a saboteur stopping the entire machine and it not working anymore. Additionally, it's odd that Mandus (who created the machine and who clearly knows a lot about it from the written records, audio flashbacks, and phonograph recordings I keep coming across), is apparently ignorant of the machine and so horrified by its appearance.
