How to disable the glowing of the doors? - Googolplex - 09-21-2013

I'm actually very angry about the glowing level doors. That looks so ugly in the game. I already managed to disable the light, and it looks really nice then - like a normal door. But then it means that all objects (notes, documents and even the lantern) also aren't shining anymore. But I want to have the notes shining, because otherwise it could be too hard to find one (with story relevant content).

So, I need help on how to disable just the door light.
Anyone can help me? Probably Jens or Thomas?

And it would be even better when they will fix this in an upcoming patch.
Actually this "blink blink" doesn't feel to play an Amnesia game.

Reinstall the game. This isn't meant to happen.

What? I'm sure it is.
That happens only on level doors.

Nope, not like that.

I'm not sure if reinstalling the game will help, it's probably a graphics driver problem. I also had graphical problems (not related to the doors though) and had to install the game on another computer so it displays fine.

The doors are blinking, I did these screenshots when they had the most brightness.

Yes it is Tiger. It's a new shader they added I'm guessing. It's on all level doors. The thing with it is that the more drastic of an angle of the surface you look at gets, the more intense the glow becomes. While I don't think that's possible to change, I'm sure you can manually disable the shader by editing the files somewhere.

Shaders like this are made to help a player find the exit, not to deliberately be "ugly". I personally liked the new shader, I'd rather not get frustrated from being lost and be helped, than worry about the glow of a door (though I can't see how someone could get lost in this game, so it may be a bit unnecessary). I'll see if I can find a way to disable it. Could be fun.

Thank you.
I don't understand how "easy" they wanted to make the game. It's never hard to find the exit, the glowing light really isn't needed. Will just ruin immersion for me.

I already removed the light, but as I said the problem is that notes also won't shine anymore.

Sorry then, I haven't played the game since I completed it (11th) and back then they didn't glow. Personally, I liked it how it was released...
Sorry for being misleading, I honestly thought it was a graphical problem Blush

No problem. And like I said, looking at the door at an intense angle can cause the door to get really bright, I actually played with it for a minute to see how bright I could get it when I first noticed it. hehe... But looking at it directly or with the lantern on, it's hardly noticeable, which is probably why you didn't notice it.

What file did you edit googol?

That makes me wonder if the level doors were saved as a note type, but set not interactable, and had a script over them, in which case, it's not a directly new shader, but a neat trick. The only way I could imagine to change them would be to replace the door models in the files with the normal ones. But that might be a pain in the butt.
