1 more hour thought experiment - Froge - 11-04-2013

What do you think the social, cultural, economic, religious, and political implications would be for society if an extra hour was added to the day, all else held constant (eg. school length, work hours)? The length of a year would definitely change, first of all.

Note: there is no scientific basis for the extra hour. The hour is added because Chronofrog has been crowned supreme overlord of humanity and he demands 25 hour days.

This would mean Jesus Christ wasn't born the 24th/25th
The whole bible must be rewritten!

More time.. Yay.. one more hour of doing nothing.
Hey, I wouldn't mind. More time for homework too.

Nah, Jesus has different birthdays, it's fine. Orthodox Christians celebrate his birthday in January, so we'll live.

Would it? I don't think one hour would be added retroactively - that would be a complete mess. All of our dates would suddenly become meaningless.

Yes! New calendar.
Of course in the beginning everything would be total chaos.
Some scientists would probably be hired to figure everything out.
All the while people would either think of it as the end of the world, or try to live with it.

Actually it depends a lot on if your basis of adding an hour is just socially, or actually scientifically as well. Because the 24 hours we have now is based off of the Earth's night/day cycles mostly.

If you added an hour only socially without having the scientific clock having changed then everything would make no more sense, because the two cycles are no longer aligned. If you change both, then I actually don't think there would be that huge of a difference beyond there just being a longer day.

This would mean anarchy and people would create their own little watch going by the 24 hour clock

Chrono could then create his own police-force that would arrest anyone who is not using his 25 hour watch.

12.5 hours of day and night.
