I like it. I know AGS engine a little, so awesome to let people make their own adventure game.
Good luck with this, you're gonna include music and voice acting? /tracking

RE: Secluded - Indie Thriller/Light Horror Game - eliasfrost - 04-13-2014

Thanks! I really like the versatility of the engine, with the right know-how you can make a wide array of different types of games, one guy even made an FPS prototype with AGS, crazy stuff, the same guy made a platformer as well.

I won't include much music in the game, I'm focusing on ambient sounds more than melody and music. The game won't have voice acting either as I don't have money to pay any voice actors in case I decide to go commercial with the game.

RE: Secluded - Indie Thriller/Light Horror Game - Daemian - 04-13-2014

Oh, ok. But there are many voice actors around not looking for money.
If you go commercial, you could give a portion of the sales to the guy. Just saying. ^^

Haha, yeah I guess but I'm sort of a perfectionist and if something doesn't fit the game I scrap it rather than letting it stay (or I try to find a better way to do it), and voice acting is one of those things that often make or break adventure games, and I'm not ready to spend a lot of time to find people to do voice work for me if it turns out to just not work with the game.

I'm not a fan of the idea of cutting profit like that either, I wouldn't spend my own time to work for someone if it's uncertain whether I get paid or not and I'd rather not hire people to work for me when even I don't know whether the game will sell or not (or if it's even going commercial). If I want something done, I make sure I have the money already before hiring someone.

Honestly, games like these feel more fitting with text instead of voice acting in my opinion... Maybe it's the 8-bit look to it that makes me feel that way.

Maybe - maybe not.

I think it would be nice addition to have two settings. One for old-school text adventure geeks and then another for those who might want voice acting. But the later would require more resources as mentioned before.

Well of course options are the best of the best. But I'm saying if it were one or the other. I guess I'm used to the retro looking games not having voice acting that hearing it would feel strange. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, it's just not typical.
