no you're missing the point it's a totally arbitrary number it doesn't matter if they were "well earned" or not because you can get them for literally anything like you said so placing any actually value in them or judging how good of a member someone is based off them is pretty dumb

Well, that depends, i hang around in off topic quite often and have yet to recieve (i feel like somone is gonna rep me now for saying this -_-) a meaningless rep.
Okay that's a lie, there's one or two..
Kman, speak for yourself. The reason you say that they are useless is because you get a lot of them for posting an YOU MAD BRO? image. Other members who actually do other things than posting at the Off-topic section get decent reputation for their decent work on something. Check the reputation of YourComputer and you'll see that his number is big because he actually provides a lot of help and not useless .gif images. Sure, everyone should be able to do that once in a while to have fun and relax but making this your daily forum activity does not make sense. Even if it does make sense to you, don't undermine the work of others by exploiting a system that distinguishes those who truly help from those who are just having fun. And yes, contrary to the funny pics rep, as a spectator you can see the comments under the +reps given at any user to see why they were helpful.
