Can you try and run the game on the lowest graphics settings possible and see if the crash occurs? On Windows the game can crash at certain areas if using an Intel HD graphics chip in combination with certain settings.

I've crashed at the same spot with all sorts of configurations, including the lowest settings. :/

It's been over two months. Will the App Store version of the game ever be happy?

I ran every setting at every level. The game always crashes right around the first encounter with the pig under the church. It doesn't seem to be a settings thing. There are, however, tons of loading errors in the HPL log. It's as if multiple textures and sounds cannot be either read or located. Solve this soon-ish and I'll leave a nice review on the App Store.

It's been over FOUR months. The crash reports are consistent, you have a genuine, well-established and reproducible bug that renders the game unplayable, but you seem to have little interest in doing anything about it. The fact that you're continuing to sell a demonstrably broken product is pretty much just bare-faced dishonesty at this point, as is further underlined by the weasely diversionary tactic in that post by jens above.

"Oh, it's your hardware. Oh, it's your settings." No, it's your game, and you know it.

Sorry RowdyPants, but the time for nice reviews is long past.

You may be correct in that it has been quite a while. But that does not mean you have to mock by saying:

Since the release of Mavericks, Frictional Games has acknowledged that there is indeed an error. Since then, they have not been able to pinpoint the source of the error, except that it has to do with certain specific points in the actual game itself. Oh wait. it has to do with certain specific points in the actual game itself. Therefore, it clearly is an error in the game.

What jens may be trying to do is provide a solution with what you currently have on a Mac, and that is the current build of Amnesia. If the game cannot be fixed by altering the settings currently available, then obviously, it needs a fix.

I understand your impatience, and I believe I would too find this to be unsatisfactory if I were a Mac user, but all you can do as a customer is wait. Frictional Games has SOMA, a patch for the Penumbra collection (for Mac), an updated Amnesia: The Dark Descent patch for development and bug fixing to deal with right now. The process is both difficult and tedious for a company. Kill a bug and create six more.

It may be of dishonesty by FG to not inform you, or other buyers of this game, yet the same could be said for most Intel HD graphics card users, who cannot potentially play the game AT ALL despite an update.

I don't blame you for your rage, but be sure to fully justify your arguments.

I feel like, until FG can release a working version of the game for the system, they should pull it / make it unavailable for Mavericks users, or at the very least add a very strong warning that it does not work with it. To sell it to someone who cannot use it gives off a bad impression if the user isn't aware of it.

It's been a year form now... Any progress? I guess you can fix a space ship in a year time!!! I have very same issue (whole thing just hang my laptop under church after first close encounter with a pig). I have 2013 mac book pro with retina display. attached you can find hpl.log

Should i ask for a refund form app store? Or possibly you have some solution for this extremely old and super well documented critical error?

Alright Frictional Games, for the sake of all my OS X peeps I'm going to help you. I've poured through the logs and crash reports. I found one obvious error. You did not include all your game assets in the Mac App Store binary upload. There are multiple textures and sounds that don't exist in the game folders.

For example: The HPL Engine Log shows the particle system file 'ps_impact_dirt_med.ps' to be missing. It should be in

Applications/Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs/Contents/Resources/particles/impact/

but only 'ps_impact_dirt_high.ps' and 'ps_impact_dirt_low.ps' are actually there. There are other entities missing as well. So, first get everything in there and then we'll squash actual code bugs.

This isn't really an optimal solution, but have any of you tried running the game under boot camp, or through wine?

I'm sure that if you asked support nicely enough they might honor you with a Windows copy so you can try running it on your Mac via boot camp, or Wine.
