Faceless Abominations - Froge - 06-07-2014 Worms. I believe a fear of worms is a common phobia. From evolutionary psychology, some of us gained a fear of worms probably to develop aversion to parasites. I know it's not rational to impose human characteristics upon other animals and objects, but I can't help but think there's something deeply disturbing about this creature. The way worms look and behave reminds me of a man zipped up in a straightjacket, his nose and eyes and ears removed. Until the day he dies, the man will do nothing but squirm and wriggle around as if trying to break free of the straightjacket. He cannot hear, smell, or see. He'll just writhe forever under that straightjacket, crawling around to reach an aimless destination and being completely unaware of everything around him. Does anyone feel this way about worms or any other things in the universe? RE: Faceless Abominations - Statyk - 06-07-2014 You love to make threads, don't you? Me personally, I've never had this fear or reaction. I just kinda feel bad for it, that it's basically just there to eat shit, then be eaten. What a life to live. RE: Faceless Abominations - Romulator - 06-07-2014 Nah mate. I fish with worm. Got no phobia against it. RE: Faceless Abominations - BAndrew - 06-07-2014 Mine include: Acarophobia- Fear of itching or of the insects that cause itching. Aerophobia- Fear of drafts, air swallowing, or airbourne noxious substances. Agliophobia- Fear of pain. Arachnephobia or Arachnophobia- Fear of spiders. Ophidiophobia- Fear of snakes. (Snakephobia) Insectophobia - Fear of insects. Necrophobia- Fear of death or dead things. Thanatophobia or Thantophobia- Fear of death or dying. Taphephobia Taphophobia- Fear of being buried alive or of cemeteries. Lygophobia- Fear of darkness. Iophobia- Fear of poison. And probably a lot more that just slipped my mind ![]() I am not afraid of worms, but I find them disgusting. However, I agree that most phobias were developed by our ancestors in the past to help us survive. RE: Faceless Abominations - Nice - 06-07-2014 snails gross me out and I have a overwhelming hate towards wasps but thats where it ends worms meh, watched too much Bear Grylls eating them alive RE: Faceless Abominations - VaeVictis - 06-07-2014 Flippin' centipedes, man. RE: Faceless Abominations - Wooderson - 06-07-2014 These migrate over to EU and US sometimes. I had a nest of these living on my roof in France. They're so common that they train the fire brigade to remove the nests. Spoiler below!
RE: Faceless Abominations - Potato - 06-07-2014 Worms don't bother me, but maggots do. Whenever I see them wiggling about I just freeze up. It's just some innate feeling in me that makes me go eauaghhh when I see them. RE: Faceless Abominations - Froge - 06-07-2014 (06-07-2014, 01:07 PM)Abraxas Wrote: Flippin' centipedes, man. This too. Centipedes are probably the freakiest creature I know, because I get very startled when I see them and I also freeze up. Worms, on the other hand, are just creepy. I'm not as much scared by them as simply creeped out. (06-07-2014, 07:18 AM)Statyk Wrote: You love to make threads, don't you? Yep.
